tradition musings

Christian tradition:

change and revolution,

nonviolent aggression,

dignity and justice,
bringing to completion;
recognition of equality, despite social status.
a pointed arrow, not a loop.

Christian perspectives
unique to us.

they’ve spread elsewhere, suffused the world

where we progress to and from

each generation changes

yet the Spirit leads us

and scripture too.

Scripture, but a tool of the Spirit

a tool of God the Father,

all pointing to Christ.

a Christian tradition,

the anchor point—

thing on which all is built

He is the sacrifice

The Lamb is the sacrifice.

He takes my sins for me.

He approaches

what I never could.

He bridges the gap.

He brings me to Eden.

He reopens the door.

He keeps the door open when I

in my arrogance try to close it try to walk away.

He lets me walk away.

He does not want to restrain me.

He only wants those who want to be there.

He wants to be chosen.

Which means we must make a choice, which means

there must be

Options

Real opportunities to choose

something else.

I choose the Lamb.

Alone in a shack,

with no one else and nothing else in the world,

I will still choose the lamb.

In celebration with friends in a mansion,

With all the jewels and money and family and influence in the world,

I will still choose the lamb.

Help me to keep making that choice.

I want to want You just as

You want to be wanted,

and I want to be wanted.

Jewels

We are jewels in His crown. He is worthy.

we are guests at His banquet. He is worthy.

He chose us.

He’s worthy. Jesus is worthy.

He’s worthy of it all:

my adoration, my respect, my worship,

worthy of ruling all creation.

He is worthy.

To step so low from such a height

to reach the lowest of us,

to connect His heart to ours, He is worthy.

I’m glad to be a jewel in His crown. I’m glad

and hope to be a guest at His wedding feast.

I will be glad to lay my crown

down before Him, for He is worthy.

Chosen

He wants to be

chosen.

He wants to be

seen.

He wants to be

picked.

He wants to be our

First priority.

We want to be our partner’s

First priority.

I respect the one who doesn’t

choose me. I

let them go their own way.

Why would God want anything different?

If He knows a different way will lead

to death,

Why would He not warn us?

I scream!

But He did. He gave us that warning

and we are judged by what we know;

by what we have heard We are judged

and what we have written on our hearts, we are judged.

We know.

But we choose not to listen.

I will not give up

I have dealt with spiritual things all my life.

when they know what

buttons to push, they push them

relentlessly and hard.

When the buttons they can push are fewer,

and you are about to break free,

They push them harder

and relentlessly.

I will not give up.

I will not surrender to my flesh.

I will not give up. I am bought for a price.

I know my value, it is beyond what I can conceive.

I will not give up. I will seek

my King. I will pursue the Cross, and the price that was paid for me.

I will not give up, though I fall in the mud and slide back covered in filth.

I learn better the chains that hold me and I see better where they are attached.

I will not give up

to the process.
